The earliest information that has been found concerning Scottish
forebears of early Victorian Pioneer William Robertson,
relates to James Robertson, (about 1582), and Jonet P (about 1584),
who on September 6, 1618, were delivered of a son George Robertson.

Nothing is known of George Robertson between the years 1618 and 1640,
however it appears as though he too had a son,
George Robertson (1640-1726) who in 1673 married Jannat
(or Jonet) Dobie 1644 daughter of Thomas (about 1625)
and Jannat Dobie (about 1629) at Dalkeith a town in Midlothian, Scotland
on the River North Esk.  Dalkeith which was granted a burgh of barony
and a burgh of regality in 1540, is the main administrative centre for Midlothian
one of the 32 council areas of Scotland.

George Robertson (1640-1726) and Jannat Dobie (1644),
had eight children all of whom were born at Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.
